A friend of mine .... a really good friend of mine .... told me a long time ago that the personal behind-the-scenes stuff doesn't belong on the main stage. The more I stand upright on this spinning orb the more I learn that he's right.
But that doesn't mean that I can't make an observation or two. About life, and about people.
If you have been following the news about the ol' man, you probably know that things have gotten near the edge in the past several months. But I found that living large as I did in the 80s, where the favorite phrase was live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse, visting quite often the city that never sleeps, spending entirely too much time in the "land of fruits and nuts" and wandering the streets of those southern Florida cities, especially in the early morning hours, wasn't the best way. But it can be a great teacher.
The lesson? To slow down, especially when the corpse would not be so good looking.
And then there are people. A favorite line of mine is that I love mankind, it's people I can't stand. One smiliarlity between between the 80's (and before that the I still can't believe I made it through the 60's) and today is that while mankind is good there are still some folks who will care only when they are being handed money from your pocket. I had forgotten that; my error. Recent lessons reminded me. Candidly, that's good, because it enables me to focus on what I really enjoy .... part of which is working in this biz and presenting to you the best photos and vids I can put together.
And, yes there are still a few who I will always call friends. Not more than a handful, but that's enough for me.
