Thanksgiving....

Yes indeed, it's that time of the year when, if all goes well and we're lucky, we stuff our faces with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and just about anything else that is fit for human consumption.

But, lest we forget, it's also a day to give thanks. For those who might want to know (if you don't what the heck are you doing reading this blog anyway?) here's a partial list.

1. My health. The last couple of months have been not so smooth as I would have liked them to be. Without the details, let's just say that I hit a patch of ice in the road of life (hmmmm, not original, but good). But the road is smoothing out and lookinc a lot clearer (should I continue with the metaphors? hehehe). And if all goes well, I will be back on a straight-a-way (you just knew I would, didn't you?). And that is something to give thanks for.

2. My family and friends. Family has always been there, though some moments I have wished that they weren't. But there's not much we can do about that, is there? Now, friends ... I learned a valuable lesson since September, and that is who are my friends, who are simply business associates, and who don't even rate being included in that last group. A tough lesson to learn, but a good one. Once again, perspective. And those decisions that I didn't want to make? They were made for me.

3. One helluva Thanksgiving day dinner. Once again, this year, the dinner table will be crowded. Some folks I know complain about that, but for me - and especially this year - being back at having a tablefull ... well, it's lots of work, hectic, confusing, sometimes expensive but always, at least at the end of the day, enjoyable.

And a special message to those who will not be able to spend the day with their family, especially medical, law enforcement, military folks and everyone else whose job keeps them away from their family that day. Thanks for doing what you do, for keeping us safe and out of harm's way.

So if you're looking for me on Thursday, I'll be the ol' man sitting at the end of the table, smiling. A lot.
